Our classroom has carpet. Should student chairs have glides (non-rolling) or casters (wheels)?
For carpet, glides are better. Here's why:

| Carpet stability | Excellent – no rolling | Poor – sinks, hard to roll |
| Noise level | Quiet | Can be loud on carpet |
| Floor damage | Minimal (glide surface) | May snag carpet fibers |
| Student movement | Students must lift chair | Rolls easily, but can be distracting |
| Cost | Cheaper | More expensive |
However: For hard floors (tile, wood), casters with soft rubber are better – they protect floors and allow easy reconfiguration.
