What Is the Best Mattress Size for a College Dorm Bunk Bed?

I’m ordering replacement bedding and mattresses for our university student housing, and I’m terrified of buying the wrong size for our metal bunk beds. Are dorm beds just standard twin sizes, or do they require something special?

Almost all college dorm bunk beds require a specific institutional size called Twin XL (Twin Extra Long).
 
While a standard twin mattress is 75 inches long, a Twin XL is 80 inches long to comfortably accommodate taller students.
 
If you accidentally buy regular twins, you'll end up with an annoying 5-inch gap at the end of the bed frame where phones, pillows, and heavy blankets will constantly fall through to the dusty floor.
