I’m helping design a small office lobby and realized I have no clue—how tall are reception desk supposed to be, and is there a standard height I should stick to?
The standard height of a reception desk typically features a tiered design: the transaction counter for visitors is 42 inches (about 107 cm) high to facilitate standing consultations, while the internal staff workspace is 28 to 30 inches (about 71 to 76 cm) high to match standard office chairs.
Additionally, to comply with accessibility standards (such as the ADA), many desks include a lower section between 30 and 34 inches (about 76 to 86 cm) to accommodate wheelchair users.
