Wayfair Expands Retail Presence with New Store Planned for Yonkers, NY

By Meet&Co

BOSTON — Wayfair is continuing its retail expansion with plans for its third large-format store, this time targeting the New York metropolitan market. The home furnishings retailer has announced a new 114,000-square-foot location set to open in early 2027 at Ridge Hill, an open-air shopping center in Yonkers, N.Y.

This follows Wayfair’s upcoming Atlanta store, a 150,000-square-foot site expected to open in 2026, and comes a year after the debut of its first store in suburban Chicago.

Liza Lefkowski, vice president of merchandising and stores, noted that the New York area is known for its strong design sensibility. She said Yonkers was a strategic choice that allows the company to bring its retail concept to life while reaching a broad customer base from Manhattan to Westchester and beyond.

The new store will feature 19 departments covering a range of home needs—from furniture and décor to outdoor living and home improvement. Products will be organized by style to help shoppers navigate the space more intuitively. Many featured items will be part of Wayfair’s Verified program, which includes products vetted through a detailed review by Wayfair’s product experts.

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano welcomed the announcement, calling Wayfair a top destination for home shopping. He expressed excitement about the city’s role in hosting one of the brand’s first large-format locations and anticipated it would bring shoppers from throughout the region.

Ridge Hill, the store’s future home, is managed through a joint venture by Jamestown, Nuveen Real Estate, and Taconic Partners. The center currently hosts retailers such as Apple, Banana Republic, Lowe’s, and Whole Foods, as well as entertainment venues like iFLY indoor skydiving and Legoland Discovery Center.

Lefkowski said Wayfair has seen firsthand how a well-designed store can boost brand engagement and attract new customers. The Yonkers location aims to build on the momentum from its Wilmette, Illinois store, offering the same level of inspiration and convenience shoppers have come to expect.

In its first year, the Wilmette store welcomed over 720,000 visitors and saw 15% higher sales growth in Illinois than the national average. More than half of its in-store customers were new to the brand. Wayfair’s local events have also drawn dozens of first-time guests, and its community involvement has included partnerships with organizations like Connections for the Homeless.

To mark the Wilmette store’s first anniversary and Memorial Day, Wayfair is hosting an online sale with discounts of up to 70%, plus an additional 10% off in-store purchases. From May 24–26, the first 100 in-store visitors will also receive complimentary birthday cake.
