Star Furniture Collaborates with Local Artists and Design Society to Support Houston Community Through Art Initiative

By Meet&Co

Houston, Texas — Star Furniture, a member of Berkshire Hathaway’s Top 100 furniture division, has partnered with Houston-based artists and the Interior Design Society (IDS) to host a charitable art auction benefiting the Furniture Bank of Houston. The event, scheduled for June 19 at the retailer’s Katy/West Houston location (16666 Barker Springs Road), will feature artistically reimagined furniture pieces crafted by local talents, including established professionals and students from Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.

From May 19 to June 13, these unique creations will be displayed in curated vignettes across all Star Furniture showrooms in Houston, including its Clearance Outlet. Proceeds from the auction will support the Furniture Bank of Houston’s mission to address a pressing local issue: over 300,000 children in the region sleep on floors nightly. Michael Galloway, Vice President of Marketing at Star Furniture, emphasized the initiative’s dual purpose, stating, “This effort not only raises critical funds but also amplifies awareness of the Furniture Bank’s impactful work, including their ‘No Kids on the Floor’ program, which has provided beds to more than 1,000 children and aided over 30,000 families.”

The IDS Houston Chapter contributed to the project by designing dedicated display spaces spanning 100–120 square feet in each showroom. These installations, unveiled ahead of Memorial Day weekend, are anticipated to generate substantial auction bids. A concurrent social media campaign will highlight participating artists, their creative processes, and the Furniture Bank’s humanitarian efforts throughout May and June. Shoppers are encouraged to engage online by sharing images of the exhibits using designated hashtags, broadening the initiative’s visibility beyond physical locations.

Juliana Ewer, President of IDS Houston, remarked, “This collaboration reflects our shared dedication to community service. The initiative promises to deliver meaningful support to Houstonians in need.”

Established 29 years ago, the Furniture Bank of Houston assists families impacted by poverty, crises, and natural disasters. To date, the organization has recycled over 120,000 mattresses and distributed essential furnishings through partnerships with 82 social service agencies. Star Furniture’s philanthropic endeavor underscores its commitment to leveraging art and design as catalysts for social change.
