ARCHBOLD, Ohio – Progressive Furniture, a subsidiary of Sauder Woodworking, has announced it will cease all operations by the end of the year, resulting in approximately 30 layoffs.
“This decision was not made lightly, and we understand the impact it will have on our employees, customers, and partners,” said Dan Kendrick, president of the company. “We are committed to supporting our employees through this transition and will assist in finding new opportunities where possible.”
The company, known for importing affordable wooden furniture from Mexico and Asia, cited several factors for its closure.
“Business conditions have been difficult in recent years, but the closure of our main supplier in Mexico has had a significant impact,” Kendrick explained. “This factory provided 60% of our products.”
Progressive Furniture will continue fulfilling existing orders and honoring warranties until the end of 2025. The company operated a warehousing and distribution facility in Claremont, N.C., and served furniture stores and online retailers across the U.S.
