LEXINGTON, Ky. — After serving customers for more than 60 years, Burke Furniture & Fine Rugs has announced that it will cease operations, marking the end of a long-standing chapter in Lexington’s furniture retail market.
To oversee the store’s liquidation process, Burke has partnered with Planned Furniture Promotions (PFP), a company specializing in retail closing and promotional sales events. The firm will manage the final inventory reduction sale as the business prepares to close its doors.
Tom Liddell, senior vice president of PFP, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to assist the retailer during this transition. He noted that Burke Furniture & Fine Rugs has built a strong reputation over the years through its commitment to customer service and quality merchandise.

Founded in 1963, Burke Furniture & Fine Rugs began as a modest family-owned operation with a showroom measuring approximately 2,000 square feet. Over the decades, the company expanded significantly, growing into a two-level facility that now encompasses roughly 70,000 square feet of combined showroom and warehouse space.
The closure follows a recent ownership change announced earlier this year. In March, Cincinnati-based Furniture Fair acquired Burke Furniture & Fine Rugs. According to previously disclosed plans, the Lexington location is expected to reopen under the Furniture Fair brand later this year, continuing furniture retail operations at the site under new management.
