In 1905, a year marked by Theodore Roosevelt’s presidential inauguration and the establishment of Las Vegas, the Eclipse mattress brand was founded. Now under Bedding Industries of America (BIA), Eclipse celebrates its 120th anniversary this year, marked by the debut of a commemorative three-bed collection unveiled during the spring High Point Market event.
The new collection, available in three comfort levels, incorporates BIA’s proprietary Spinal Zone III technology, designed to enhance lumbar support through a system of over 1,400 nano coils reinforcing the mattress center. Additional features include 800 pocketed coils, layered gel-infused memory foam, and high-density foam for optimized comfort. Aesthetically, the mattresses showcase a distinctive blue border with coordinating handles, blending functionality with modern design.
Priced at $1,499 for a queen size, the collection offers both roll-packed and flat shipping options. BIA will allocate a portion of proceeds to Ante4Autism, a charitable organization the company has consistently supported.
Originally established in Brooklyn, New York, Eclipse rose to prominence in the mid-20th century as a leading brand in major department stores, including Macy’s, Gimbels, JCPenney, and Lit Brothers. To meet escalating demand, Eclipse merged with National Mattress Co. in the 1970s, operating successfully until its closure in 1999.
Stuart Carlitz, BIA’s founder, later acquired Eclipse’s intellectual property, branding assets, and machinery, revitalizing the company under its original name, Bedding Industries of America. Reflecting on the acquisition, Carlitz noted, “My vision was to build a diversified portfolio of brands, positioning BIA as a comprehensive resource for retailers. The Eclipse legacy has driven innovation, from the Eclipse Ice and Curve lines to today’s Spinal Zone III technology. Its enduring appeal lies in its ability to evolve with contemporary consumer needs while honoring a century of heritage.”
Carlitz emphasized Eclipse’s ongoing relevance, underscoring its fusion of historical significance and cutting-edge advancements in sleep technology. The anniversary collection symbolizes both a milestone in longevity and a commitment to future innovation.
