Meet&CoWILMINGTON, Del. — Home décor chain At Home Group and over 40 related entities have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware as of June 16.
The Coppell, Texas-based company reported estimated assets and liabilities each ranging between $1 billion and $10 billion, with a creditor base estimated at between 10,001 and 25,000.
Financial distress at the company has been the subject of speculation in recent months. In May, it was revealed that At Home missed a scheduled interest payment on May 15 and subsequently entered into a forbearance agreement with its lenders on May 23. Previous reports from April indicated the company was attempting to restructure approximately $2 billion in debt.
In its First Day Declaration, At Home cited persistent challenges stemming from the broader economy and retail sector. Rising interest rates, ongoing inflation, and elevated customs costs—largely driven by higher tariffs—have placed significant strain on its operations and profitability.
As part of the restructuring plan, At Home reached an agreement with Hilco Merchant Resources to shutter 26 of its 260 locations, identifying them as underperforming. Additional store closures may follow depending on how the proceedings unfold.
