The Sleepyhead Mattress: First Edition marks the company‘s largest product expansion since the introduction of its Super Topper and represents its first entry into the mattress category. The mattress are sold via the company’s webiste for $1,699 in queen.
The new mattress is positioned for students, recent graduates and young professionals, and builds on a history of customer feedback and product development, according to the company.
The memory foam mattress features Sleepyhead‘s Super Foam infused with cooling and copper technology, along with targeted support designed for the spine, back and hips. The mattress also features antimicrobial properties and protection against common allergens and is made with CertiPUR-US certified foam.
Founded a decade ago by Steven Van Alen after his own experience sleeping on an uncomfortable college mattress, Sleepyhead has built its business around mattress toppers targeting college students and their parents. The company said it has served more than 150,000 customers since its founding.
The company sees an opportunity to expand its relationship with those consumers as they graduate from college and enter new stages of life.
“Ten years ago, I started Sleepyhead because I couldn‘t sleep on my own student mattress, and I knew other students felt the same,” said Van Alen, founder and CEO.“What started as a solution for college students has become something much bigger. Our customers have grown up with us, and this next chapter is about continuing to create comfort wherever life takes them.”
The new mattress signals a broader evolution for Sleepyhead from a company primarily associated with college mattress toppers into a sleep products brand targeting consumers across multiple life stages. The company said it plans to continue expanding its collection of mattresses and other sleep essentials.
“Sleepyhead started by making one uncomfortable dorm bed more comfortable,” Van Alen said. “Ten years later, we have an opportunity to think much bigger about what creating comfort means and who we can create it for. That‘s the company we want to build over the next decade.”
Alongside the mattress launch, Sleepyhead is extending its charitable efforts through a donation of mattress toppers for families affected by the recent earthquake in Venezuela.
The toppers are transported by Red Stag Fulfillment to Global Empowerment Mission‘s distribution hub in Miami. Global Empowerment Mission is coordinating transportation and distribution to impacted communities in Venezuela.
The donation is part of Sleepyhead‘s ongoing efforts to support communities through product donations and nonprofit partnerships.
