I’m trying to figure out my office setup—when it comes to storage space, which holds more, a lateral or vertical file cabinet?
In general, lateral file cabinets hold more than vertical ones because each drawer is wider and can accommodate more files.
Vertical file cabinets are usually tall and narrow, with each drawer able to hold only a single row of files. Their advantage is that they take up less floor space, making them suitable for offices with limited room. However, the storage capacity of each drawer is limited, which also restricts the total storage.
Lateral file cabinets, on the other hand, are wider and shorter. Each drawer can hold multiple rows of files, giving them a much larger storage capacity per drawer. The trade-off is that they occupy more floor space compared to vertical cabinets.
