What Causes Office Chair Gas Cylinder Failure, and Can It Be Prevented?

The mesh back on my chair is looser than when I bought it. Is there a way to tighten it, or do I need a new chair?

Mesh can sag from stretching, frame flex, or broken tensioning. Here's what to check:

Quick test: Push on the mesh with your thumb. If it indents more than 1/2 inch with light pressure, it's too loose. If the chair has a tension adjustment knob (some high-end models), turn it clockwise.
