Scabies mites typically survive 24–36 hours away from human skin and, in favorable conditions, may live for up to 2–3 days.
If an infected person recently spent significant time on the couch and another person has direct contact with the same area soon afterward, transmission is possible.
However, shared bedding, clothing, and extended skin contact are much more common sources of infection. If you develop intense itching, especially at night, or a rash with small burrow-like lines, seek medical evaluation.
