COON RAPIDS, Minn. — For HOM Furniture, a top 100 retailer in the industry, the acquisition of Hennen Furniture, another Minnesota-based company, aligned with several strategic goals.
First, the purchase strengthens HOM’s portfolio by adding another long-standing family-owned brand. The acquisition follows HOM’s previous expansions with brands like Gabberts Design Studio & Fine Furnishings and Seasonal Concepts, reinforcing its position in the regional market.
Another key factor in the decision was the acquisition of Hennen’s owned real estate. HOM has a strong preference for owning properties rather than leasing, and Hennen’s 218,000-square-foot facility fits perfectly with that strategy.
Additionally, the merger enhances HOM’s presence in Central Minnesota, especially in the St. Cloud area, a market where Hennen has established a loyal customer base since its founding in 1967 by Bob Hennen. With the acquisition, HOM gains deeper access to this region and the nearby Lakes Region, improving its ability to serve a broader customer base.

Carl Nyberg, president and CEO of HOM, emphasized the shared values between the two companies, particularly their family roots and commitment to customers and employees. “When the ownership is involved, it’s meaningful to the staff,” Nyberg said. “It makes transitions smoother when you share similar values and care about delivering the best results to customers.”
HOM plans to maintain the Hennen Furniture brand, preserving its local heritage while also benefiting from the operational advantages the acquisition provides. The larger showroom space in St. Cloud will allow HOM to showcase a more extensive selection, and the Hennen distribution center will improve regional delivery efficiency.
“We value owning properties,” Nyberg explained. “The building that Hennen built and maintained is a major asset to us. It allows us to provide better service to the Central Minnesota market and beyond.”
Nyberg also reassured the St. Cloud community, the Hennen family, and long-time employees that the legacy of the Hennen brand would be in good hands. “The name on the building is important,” he said. “Just like we did with Gabberts, we’ll continue to uphold the reputation that Hennen has built over the years.”
