Today’s Home replacing long‑running outlet with new concept

PITTSBURGH — Family-owned furniture retailer Todays Home is closing its Designer Furniture Outlet at the end of August.

Beginning Aug. 26, it will hold a $2 million liquidation sale to clear the DFO floor, with wholesale pricing and savings on remaining designer-brand furniture, rugs, mattresses and accessories.

The Pittsburgh-based retailer will reallocate 12,000 square feet of its 60,000-square-foot Greentree Design Center for a new leather and motion furniture concept, specialized galleries and strategic retail partnerships still taking place.

“When Today’s Home launched DFO in 2000, the idea was ahead of its time,”said Jeff Lenchner, Todays Home CEO. “We were giving style-conscious shoppers in Pittsburgh access to manufacturer overruns, closeouts and showroom samples from top furniture brands at steep discounts. It worked, becoming a go-to destination for design-savvy bargain hunters and a model other retailers tried to replicate.”

Alyssa Moore, Today’s Home’s president, said demand hasn’t changed, but the supply of true high-end, off-price inventory has narrowed sharply. She compared it with what’s played out in apparel, where off-price players such as Saks Off 5th have struggled to source luxury goods at the volume and quality their concept depends on.

In place of DFO, Todays Home will introduce a new retail concept dedicated to leather and motion furniture, one of the fastest-growing categories in home furnishings, within the reallocated space. The company also confirmed it is finalizing strategic retail partnerships.

Rachel Lenchner, Todays Home chief marketing and merchandising director and third-generation owner, said the move allows Todays Home to sharpen its focus on its high-end residential showroom, The Rug Studio, custom window treatments and its trade division, TH Trade, which serves both independent designers and architects through its trade showroom and corporate, healthcare, education and hospitality clients through TH Trade Commercial.

“By simplifying our buying and merchandising, were giving customers a more focused, defined experience, with leather and motion at the center of it,”she said.“Our popular‘Bunnyfinal markdown department will continue, so the deep discounts our customers love arent going anywhere.”
