PETERSBURG, Fla. — A recent study conducted by 3D Cloud, in collaboration with Provoke Insights, indicates that hybrid shopping has become the dominant approach for furniture purchases. While online-exclusive shopping continues to grow, in-store-only purchases are experiencing a decline.
The 2025 3D Cloud Furniture Shopping Trends Study reveals that 45% of consumers utilize both online and in-store channels, underscoring the importance of a seamless omnichannel experience for retailers. Online-only shopping has increased by 26%, particularly among female consumers, whereas in-store-only shopping has declined.
“The evolving shopping behaviors highlight consumers’ increasing reliance on digital experiences,” stated Carly Fink, President and Head of Research at Provoke Insights. “Shoppers seek a balance between the convenience of online purchasing and the reassurance of in-store interactions.”
Key insights from the study include:
- 62% of Millennials prefer a combination of online and in-store shopping.
- 46% of consumers browse online before making an in-store purchase.
- 58% express a desire for improved visualization tools when shopping in person.
- 86% are satisfied with either traditional product images or 3D visuals, provided they accurately depict the item.
The study further highlights a growing interest in AI-powered visualization tools to aid in decision-making. However, retailers continue to encounter challenges in integrating AI solutions that deliver measurable benefits.
“The future of furniture retail is dynamic, immersive, and rich with opportunity,” noted Beck Besecker, CEO and Co-founder of 3D Cloud. “Retailers who adopt a hybrid approach and invest in innovative technology will be best positioned for success.”
