OMAHA, Neb. — Nebraska Furniture Mart (NFM), a prominent home furnishings retailer and subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway’s furniture division, is proactively establishing significant community connections in the Cedar Park, Texas area, despite its forthcoming retail location remaining in the pre-opening phase.
NFM has assumed the role of Founding Partner for the recently established Parks & Trails Foundation of Cedar Park (2024). This organization is dedicated to the preservation, enhanced accessibility, and enrichment of Cedar Park’s network of trails, parks, and natural green spaces. In its capacity as the Foundation’s official sponsor, NFM actively participated in the April 2025 Earth Day Celebration, an event which formally initiated the Foundation’s capital campaign for the year.
Mr. Andy Shefsky, NFM Community and Public Relations Manager, remarked, “Representing NFM at Cedar Park’s Earth Day event was an honor. Numerous community residents expressed their enthusiasm regarding our upcoming presence in Cedar Park and conveyed appreciation for our decision to establish a new store within the community.”
Ms. Vicky Glenn, Corporate Social Responsibility and Public Relations Specialist, emphasized the alignment between the Foundation’s objectives and NFM’s core principles. “The Cedar Park community extended an exceptionally warm reception to NFM, fostering an immediate sense of belonging. Contributing to a community demonstrating such profound environmental stewardship is deeply gratifying,” stated Glenn. “Witnessing our partners actively celebrate and cultivate their dedication to nature proved genuinely inspiring.”
Mr. Josh Ortiz, Cedar Park Store Director, addressed attendees and subsequently engaged in a collaborative drumming session facilitated by Soulshine Rhythm Experience. “Addressing community members and leadership was an honor, as was participating in such an engaging, hands-on activity,” Ortiz noted. “While the experience was physically demanding, observing participants wholeheartedly enjoying the occasion was exceptionally rewarding.”
The celebration featured participation from local enterprises, including Me & the Bees Lemonade, founded in 2009 by Ms. Mikaila Ulmer at the age of four. Ms. Glenn drew a parallel between Ulmer’s initiative and the legacy of NFM’s founder, Mrs. B (Rose Blumkin), stating, “Ms. Ulmer’s entrepreneurial path evokes Mrs. B’s own narrative, wherein both women successfully built substantial enterprises characterized by determination, clear purpose, and a strong foundational mission.”
