The collaboration features Marimekko’s renowned prints, designed by Maija Isola, incorporated into Alvar Aalto’s celebrated furniture designs in subtle yet distinctive ways.
“While the pairing of Artek and Marimekko might seem like a natural fit, the outcome is anything but expected,” explained Marianne Goebl, Artek’s managing director. “We’ve combined our unique identities, creative visions, and expertise to create something truly surprising. The result is a collection that balances boldness with understated beauty, and we hope it brings warmth and joy into many homes.”
Using Marimekko’s Arkkitehti series prints, the designs are reinterpreted through marquetry on a veneer surface across three of Aalto’s iconic pieces: Stool 60, Bench 153B, and Table 90D. Among the collection’s standout items are the Stool 60 Lokki, which draws inspiration from Marimekko’s Lokki (seagull) pattern, the Stool 60 Kivet, inspired by the Kivet (stones) pattern, and the Stool 60 Seireeni, reflecting the flowing lines of the Seireeni (siren) print. All pieces are crafted from Finnish birch at Artek’s Turku factory.
“This collaboration transforms Marimekko’s printmaking art into a new form, brought to life through the interplay of pattern, light, and a wooden canvas,” shared Rebekka Bay, creative director at Marimekko. “We believe this collection offers an elegant and surprising way to merge Marimekko’s iconic patterns with Artek’s timeless furniture designs.”
The limited-edition collection is available at Artek and Marimekko stores, both online and in-person, as well as through select dealers.
