THOMASVILLE, N.C. — John Thomas Furniture has unveiled a significant expansion of its Custom Select program, aimed at enhancing production efficiency and catering to increasing demand across various product categories. The company’s move includes the addition of custom finishing capabilities at its Plant Five facility, located in Thomasville, N.C.
Plant Five, a 78,000-square-foot space initially purchased in 2017 for warehousing, has now been repurposed to support finishing operations. This development is expected to streamline production workflows and improve output speed while maintaining the high craftsmanship the company is known for.
The addition of finishing capacity to Plant Five aligns with John Thomas Furniture’s goal of better accommodating its evolving product lineup under the Custom Select program.
The company’s two existing dedicated finishing plants, Plant Two and Plant Four, were already fulfilling the demand for custom finishing. However, by spreading production across three locations, the company can now better manage diverse product types, including dining, bedroom storage, and accent furniture.

Bryan Sprinkles, Vice President of Product Development at Whitewood, parent company of John Thomas Furniture, emphasized that the expansion would not only enhance production speed but also maintain the company’s longstanding commitment to offering flexible customization options.
“Our Custom Select program has always focused on giving customers the freedom to personalize their furniture, and this expansion ensures we deliver this with even greater efficiency,” said Sprinkles.
The new setup at Plant Five, which increases finishing capacity by 20%, is designed to reduce lead times, improve order fulfillment accuracy, and maintain high-quality standards. John Thomas Furniture’s move towards specialized workflows at each plant will allow the company to better meet the customization demands of its growing customer base.
As John Thomas Furniture diversifies into additional product categories like bedroom, storage, and occasional furniture, the Select program is pivotal in supporting this expansion. With the addition of Plant Five, the company is poised to meet the rising demand for solid wood furnishings across the home.
