CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. — Ikea U.S., a top 100 retailer, is set to open its first store in Alabama in 2026.

The Swedish furniture giant, based in Conshohocken, Pa., revealed plans to open a new location at University Place Shopping Center, 6125 University Place Drive, in Huntsville. This marks the brand’s debut in the state of Alabama.

According to a local report from Rocket City Now, the new store will take over a former Conn’s HomePlus space.

“We’re excited to bring our first Alabama store to the Huntsville area, making the dream of a better home accessible to even more people across the country,” said Javier Quiñones, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer of Ikea U.S. “The opening of the Huntsville store underscores our commitment to bringing Ikea closer to customers, while offering affordable solutions for their home needs.”

Spanning 46,000 square feet, the store will feature fully furnished room setups designed to cater to local living needs, with a focus on Huntsville’s unique community. It will showcase 5,000 products, and over 2,000 items will be available for immediate takeaway, including home decor accessories and about 75 small furniture pieces.

Larger items, such as sofas and beds, as well as the complete Ikea range, can be ordered online with options for free in-store pickup or home delivery for a small fee. Additionally, customers can choose Ikea Huntsville as a pick-up location for qualifying online orders.

The store will also include a central planning area, where customers can book personalized design consultations with expert Ikea planners for spaces like kitchens, bedrooms, and bathrooms. The Swedish food experience will be featured with a menu of beloved items like meatballs, plant balls, veggie dogs, and cinnamon buns.

As part of its commitment to sustainability, the store will offer an As-is Department with gently used, discontinued, and more affordable furnishings, helping customers furnish their homes sustainably.

“We’re excited to bring Ikea’s functional, stylish, and affordable home solutions to Alabama,” said John Achillea, Market Area Manager for Ikea U.S. “It’s a thrill to expand our presence in the South and meet more customers where they live.”
