The initiative, running through December 31, will see IKEA match customer donations dollar-for-dollar, up to $100,000. This matching program is designed to double the public’s impact, with funds directed toward providing children with a healthy start through improved nutrition, learning resources, and play opportunities.
Sam Eisenman, a sustainability business partner for IKEA U.S., stated that the company’s mission extends beyond affordable furniture to helping families meet fundamental needs. He emphasized that the collaboration with Save the Children is a direct effort to ensure more children have the opportunity to learn, play, and thrive.
The campaign addresses a growing national crisis, where millions of American children experience hunger each year. Save the Children’s Hunger-Free Communities program focuses on creating sustainable, local solutions by working with schools and community organizations to increase access to nutritious food and family support services.
Clare Rodger, Chief Marketing and Growth Officer of Save the Children US, highlighted the severity of the issue, noting that nearly 20% of households with children faced food insecurity in 2023, with rural areas being disproportionately affected. She explained that proper nutrition is foundational to a child’s health, education, and emotional well-being, and the organization is dedicated to removing these barriers by helping families access healthy meals to support both immediate and long-term needs.
