MADISON, Wis. — Ikea, the Swedish home furnishings and food retailer, announced plans Thursday to open a new store in Madison, marking its second location in Wisconsin.
The Madison location will occupy 54,000 square feet at 215 Junction Rd., within the Prairie Towne Center, taking over a space previously held by Bed Bath & Beyond, which closed after the chain filed for bankruptcy in April 2023.
Ikea’s first Wisconsin store, a 290,000-square-foot flagship, opened in Oak Creek in May 2018. Company officials have not disclosed financial details regarding the Madison site or its investment.

As of January 2026, Ikea operates 55 stores across the United States, according to ScrapeHero.
“Creating a better everyday life at home starts with making shopping convenient,” said Rob Olson, interim CEO of Ikea U.S. “Bringing a new store to Madison reflects our goal to make affordable, well-designed home furnishings accessible to more customers.”
The Oak Creek store’s debut spurred development in its surrounding area, including the Creekside Conference Center and Hub13 apartments, supported by city infrastructure funding through a tax incremental district.
The Madison store will be positioned near major retailers like Target and Mounds Pet Food Warehouse. Shoppers can explore staged living spaces, including kitchens, bedrooms, and bathrooms, all designed with Ikea products. Approximately 5,000 items will be on display, with 3,000 available for immediate purchase.
A Swedish deli will also be part of the store, offering popular menu items such as meatballs, hot dogs, veggie options, and cinnamon buns.
