Meet&CoFARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. — Gorman’s Home Furnishings & Interior Design is consolidating its Detroit-area operations, closing its Troy and Southfield showrooms while concentrating its retail presence at its larger Novi location.

The Farmington Hills-based retailer said the move is intended to strengthen its ability to serve customers across the metro Detroit market. The company will continue operating its Novi showroom along with its clearance center and warehouse in Farmington Hills.
“This seems to be the strongest way for us to consolidate strategically to continue serving the business,”CEO Jonathan Moray said. “The Novi showroom made the most sense to keep among Gorman‘s three main stores, which is in a great furniture retail area in the northwest Detroit suburbs. It‘s the largest, at around 50,000 square feet, and can best showcase the full breadth of offerings.”
The Troy and Southfield locations each measure between 20,000 and 30,000 square feet, giving them less space for the retailer’s full assortment. By comparison, the Novi store also benefits from its location in a well-established furniture retail corridor in the northwest Detroit suburbs.
“It’s a good retail corridor, and it’s become a magnet for furniture stores. There’s a Bob’s Discount and Gardner White,” Moray said, adding that the area has previously been home to Value City Furniture and Art Van Furniture locations.
Moray also emphasized that the closures do not represent a retreat from the Detroit market. The company intends to continue supporting its customers, employees and vendor partners through its remaining operations.
