Gold Bond has announced a significant update to several of its core mattress collections, introducing a new pocketed coil system aimed at improving compatibility with adjustable bases—an increasingly popular feature among today’s consumers.
The upgrade includes the rollout of a 630-count pocketed coil unit developed by Leggett & Platt. This new system replaces traditional Bonnell coil constructions in select models, while maintaining existing price points for both retailers and customers.
The redesigned construction is now featured across multiple collections, including Newport, Chatham, Andover and Concord (previously known as Westport, Greenwich, Litchfield and Classic). It also extends to high-demand models such as Cambridge. In addition, the company is introducing Mystic, a new two-sided mattress specifically engineered for use with adjustable bases.

According to company president Skip Naboicheck, the shift to pocketed coils delivers several advantages. These include better motion isolation, improved body contouring, and enhanced overall comfort—benefits that are especially valuable for couples. He emphasized that the upgrade allows the company to elevate product performance without increasing costs, maintaining the durability and warranty standards customers expect.
CEO Bob Naboicheck added that pocketed coil systems have traditionally been associated with premium mattresses, but this move makes the technology more accessible. While Bonnell coils remain known for their durability in entry-level products, they lack compatibility with adjustable bases, which are becoming a central component of modern sleep systems.
The updated designs will continue to incorporate Gold Bond’s edge-to-edge steel construction, ensuring structural strength and longevity. Company leadership believes the enhancements will help retailers attract more customers by offering improved value and functionality at competitive prices.
Despite the shift, Gold Bond confirmed it will still provide Bonnell coil options for institutional use and for retail partners who prefer them.
