WARREN, Mich. — Gardner White, a Top 100 furniture retailer, has inaugurated its new home furnishings retail concept, GW Home, in downtown Detroit. The opening underscores the company’s commitment to the city’s ongoing resurgence.
Headquartered in Warren, Michigan, Gardner White celebrated the grand opening of GW Home on June 6th. This boutique-style store, the company’s fourteenth location, is specifically designed to cater to urban lifestyles. The concept originated with CEO Rachel Stewart, who expressed significant satisfaction with its realization, particularly noting the efficient execution timeline.
“It is rewarding to launch a novel concept poised for success, achieved within an exceptionally compressed timeframe,” Stewart stated. “Demonstrating effective execution is equally critical as possessing a sound strategic vision.”
Occupying a three-story, 15,000-square-foot space at 1201 Woodward Avenue, directly opposite Hudson’s Detroit, GW Home presents a carefully selected assortment. This includes custom furniture, home décor, artwork, accessories, and distinctive gifts. Unique offerings sourced through local partnerships and collaborations feature prominently. Stewart emphasized the strategic importance of establishing a presence in Detroit’s revitalized core, affirming it as a longstanding objective for Gardner White.
“Spiritually and emotionally, a downtown Detroit location was always paramount, reflecting our identity as Detroiters and our belief in the city,” Stewart explained. “Now, aligned with Detroit’s financial recovery, establishing our presence downtown is both meaningful and strategically sound.”
The GW Home assortment features prominent brands such as Bernhardt, Rowe, Vanguard, Drew & Jonathan Home, Tempur-Pedic, Aireloom, Kingsdown, and locally manufactured Serta. The store also highlights a dynamic collection of high-quality furnishings and locally sourced items. Stewart noted that the product selection and merchandising philosophy intentionally mirror Detroit’s character, focusing on “accessible luxury.”
“A key differentiator is our emphasis on accessible luxury. Creating beauty solely with high-priced items is straightforward,” Stewart commented. “That approach, however, does not represent Detroit. Achieving creativity within this framework was particularly gratifying.”
Stewart characterized the GW Home opening as strategically significant for Gardner White, reflecting the necessity for retail evolution to maintain relevance. She indicated that the company will persist in pioneering new concepts as it pursues avenues for sustainable growth.
“Our growth strategy remains strategic, measured, and absorbable. We will continue refining this concept,” Stewart concluded. “GW Home demonstrates our willingness to innovate, a principle we intend to uphold moving forward.”
