Birdie Fortescue brings globally inspired British design to the U.S.

By Meet&Co

NEW YORK — British home décor label Birdie Fortescue has officially stepped into the U.S. market, launching its first American presence through a temporary showroom at New York’s Interior Arts Building, open through the end of March.

Founded by designer Birdie Fortescue, the brand reflects a distinctly British point of view while drawing heavily on global craft traditions. Fortescue, who began her career at esteemed interior design studio Colefax & Fowler, says her creative vision is rooted in architectural details, decorative motifs, rich textiles and thoughtful color pairings. Each collection, she notes, is designed as a layered narrative influenced by her travels.

The business began with a physical shop in Norfolk, England, where Fortescue curated antiques sourced from France and Italy. These pieces shared a restrained, architectural character that quickly gained attention. To complement the antique offerings, she gradually introduced her own homewares, starting with hand-printed textiles.

Today, the brand has grown into a full lifestyle collection that includes tableware, glassware, lighting, artwork, indoor and outdoor furniture, and select antiques. Production spans artisan workshops in India, Indonesia and the U.K., reinforcing the brand’s focus on craftsmanship. Increasing interest from American buyers prompted the expansion overseas, and a warehouse in upstate New York is set to house the full assortment by mid-year.

Birdie Fortescue’s current range, titled The Silk Road, is inspired by the founder’s travels across Asia and surrounding regions. A new collection is scheduled to launch next year. Designed with continuity in mind, the brand intentionally revisits core colors such as green, blue and red in varying tones, allowing pieces from different seasons to be mixed seamlessly.

As a practicing interior designer, Fortescue emphasizes flexibility and customization as essential to her offering. She says the brand is built not just to sell products, but to support the real needs of design professionals through adaptable solutions.

In April, Birdie Fortescue will further expand its U.S. presence with a debut at High Point Market, exhibiting as part of The Design Social Pop-Up, a platform connecting independent brands with the interior design community.
