NEW YORK — Australian rug brand Armadillo is set to open a 4,000-square-foot flagship showroom in New York City later this month. The space, located on Broadway with views of Madison Square Park, blends historic architecture with modern design.
The renovation, created in partnership with Klein Agency, preserves the building’s original 1897 features, including pine floors, columns, and moldings, while introducing gently sculpted walls with textured plaster. The result is a dialogue between past and present, where craftsmanship from both eras is highlighted.

“Our goal was to celebrate the building’s history while introducing a contemporary rhythm,” said Armadillo co-founder Jodie Fried. “Each curve and material was thoughtfully chosen so visitors can experience our rugs not just as products, but as works of art.”
Maša Kleinhample, founding partner at Klein Agency, added, “We were fortunate to have a stunning architectural shell with high ceilings and abundant natural light. We added subtle curves and sculptural walls to create a sense of exploration within the space.”
Sally Pottharst, Armadillo co-founder, emphasized that the New York showroom is more than a traditional retail space. “It’s designed for pause and connection, reflecting the material honesty that defines everything we create,” she said.
The opening will also introduce Armadillo’s first patterned collection, Linnea, showcasing bold colors and reimagined motifs that complement the showroom’s artistic environment.
