NEW YORK – A slower housing market may be keeping more consumers in place, but Oriental Weavers USA sees opportunities in products that can refresh existing spaces. Company President Andy Brumlow said rugs are well positioned to benefit from this trend because they can update a room without requiring a major investment.

“With less moving in the housing market we are seeing consumers respond to products that offer a combination of style, comfort and value, and rugs are an easy way to make a meaningful impact in a room without a major investment,” Brumlow said.
The company’s latest introductions at the New York Home Fashions Market include two collections, Kate and Keenan, which take different approaches to color, construction and design.
Kate brings an updated traditional look with vintage-inspired elements. Its color palette combines sage, faded blue, warm mocha and terracotta with golden neutrals. The collection is machine-woven from 100% space-dyed polyester and uses textured accent yarns to add depth to the surface. Integrated fringe finishes the edges.
“We’re seeing a continued movement toward softer, more comfortable looks, with texture playing a major role,” Brumlow said. “Consumers are gravitating toward designs that feel relaxed and approachable, while we’re also seeing strong interest in updated traditional patterns and more subtle, layered color palettes.”
Keenan takes a different approach, using natural materials and handwoven construction. Made in India from wool and polyester, the collection combines muted greens and blues with warmer neutrals and clay tones. Its layered, vintage-inspired patterns are designed to work across a range of interiors.
The same design direction extends to Oriental Weavers’ broader assortment. For the remainder of the year, the company plans to focus on products that combine design, functionality and value, while continuing to invest in texture, softer constructions, updated traditional designs and versatile color palettes. The company is also expanding its washable and performance-oriented offerings.
The focus on value comes as retailers prepare for the holiday season amid higher costs and a more cautious retail environment.
“The biggest challenge continues to be navigating an environment where consumers are value-conscious while also dealing with higher costs throughout the supply chain,” Brumlow said. “Retailers are being very deliberate with inventory and commitments, so having the right products available at the right price point will be critical this holiday season.”
Oriental Weavers is responding by focusing on product relevance, pricing, inventory and service levels so retailers can respond as opportunities develop.
“We believe the holiday season will favor companies that can bring together great design, strong value and dependable availability,” Brumlow said.
Oriental Weavers USA’s New York showroom is located on the 11th and 12th floors of 260 Fifth Ave.
