HIGH POINT — Built-in immersive audio has earned Pamlico Sound by Soundstage a top casual furniture design honor, with its Laguna outdoor seating collection winning a 2026 ICFA Design Excellence Award.
Laguna took the Lounge Seating Cushion category, putting the relatively new outdoor brand in the spotlight for integrating a full sound system directly into casual seating. The collection conceals six high-definition speakers and two dual-tuned subwoofers inside the frame, creating what the company describes as concert-quality sound without the need for separate outdoor speakers.
Pamlico Sound will show Laguna during Casual Market Atlanta, Sept. 15-18 at AmericasMart Atlanta, Building 1, Floor 7. A second Laguna will be included in ICFA’s Design Excellence winners display in the Building 1, Floor 2 lobby near registration.
“Soundstage has been dedicated to solution-oriented products since its inception,” said Joseph Savovic, president and CEO of Soundstage USA. “With the rapid growth of casual outdoor and the success of Soundstage Immersive Sound Seating, it felt like a natural step to introduce this amenity to the marketplace.”
The International Casual Furnishings Assn.’s Design Excellence Awards recognize products based on innovative design, marketability, color, construction and imaginative use of materials. More than 100 products were entered across 10 categories this year, with one winner selected in each category.
Laguna uses Soundstage’s Super-Link technology, which allows multiple seating pieces to be paired so the entire group functions as a single audio system. The collection connects wirelessly to Bluetooth-enabled televisions, phones, tablets and computers, with audio functions operated through a wireless hand control.
The collection is built on welded aluminum frames with hand-woven all-weather polymer wicker and includes teak tabletops, all-weather acrylic fabrics and performance all-weather foam core seating.
Laguna is part of Pamlico Sound’s initial outdoor assortment, which includes six collections and 35 pieces. The other collections are Marathon, Destin, Biscayne, Siesta Key and Naples, with the assortment spanning modular sectionals, swivel rockers, chaises, dining and occasional pieces.
Savovic said the company sees Pamlico Sound fitting primarily with mid-priced retailers, including specialty patio stores, independent furniture dealers and larger regional furniture chains.
“The combination of amenities, advanced sound technologies, fit and finish will push the Pamlico Sound line to a natural sweet spot of solid mid-priced retailers,” he said. “That will include specialty patio shops and furniture retailers ranging from single-unit independents to the regional majors.”
ICFA’s Lilly Awards and Lillian B. Winchester Best of Show Award are scheduled to be announced during the ICFA Gala Sept. 16 at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta.
Pamlico Sound is distributed by Revolutionary Retail, FOB North Carolina and California.
