What Is the Ideal Clear Height for Storing A4 Folders?

I want to buy a filing cabinet to hold stacks of A4 folders, and try to avoid cramped, hard-to-access storage space—does anyone know what the ideal clear height for storing A4 folders is?

In general, the ideal clear internal height for A4 folder storage varies based on whether you’re storing single upright folders or stacked multi-folder piles, plus extra clearance for easy retrieval.
 
Most standard storage compartments designed for upright A4 file folders require a minimum clear height between about 12.6 and 14 inches (32 to 35.5 centimeters). But factors such as whether you add tab dividers and desired headroom for sliding papers in and out can noticeably change the minimum required clear height.
 
So it’s smart to calculate the required clear height before building or purchasing filing cabinets, open shelving, or desk storage cubbies for your A4 document folders.
