The Furniture Mall has strengthened its footprint in the Kansas City area with the opening of a new showroom in the Northland district, marking the retailer’s third location serving the metropolitan market.
The new store opened in May after the company transformed a former Macy’s property into a two-level, 150,000-square-foot furniture destination located near the intersection of U.S. Route 169 and Barry Road in Kansas City.
According to owner Jeff Winter, the Northland area presented a strong opportunity due to its continued growth and limited furniture retail options. The new showroom also helps complete the company’s strategic positioning across the Kansas City region, with each of its three metro-area stores spaced roughly 35 miles apart.

The retailer’s existing Kansas City locations are situated in Lee’s Summit and Olathe. Beyond the metro area, The Furniture Mall also operates a showroom and an Ashley store in Topeka.
The new Northland showroom maintains the brand’s recognizable store design, featuring curved pathways, circular layouts and ring-style displays designed to create an easy browsing experience. The location also includes a large 3D mural highlighting the company’s family history in furniture retail.
The feature traces the business back to its origins as Winter Furniture, which began in 1933. The display includes a historic image of the founder’s grandfather alongside a delivery truck, with the truck recreated as a dimensional part of the wall installation.
The store held a soft opening on May 21, with an official grand opening scheduled for July 8. Winter said the new location will provide Northland shoppers with another destination for furniture and mattress purchases while expanding the retailer’s regional reach.
