I can’t try chairs in person. What measurements should I take at home to compare with specs?
With a few simple measurements, you can match your body to chair specs with confidence. Here's what to measure:
Your Body Measurements:
| Measure | How | What It Tells You |
|---|---|---|
| Thigh Length | From back of knee to buttock | Minimum seat depth needed |
| Seated Shoulder Height | From seat to top of shoulder | Minimum back height needed |
| Seated Elbow Height | From seat to bent elbow | Ideal armrest height range |
| Hip Width | Widest point | Seat width needed |
| Weight | On scale | Chair weight capacity needed |
Matching to Chair Specs:
| Chair Spec | Your Measurement | Ideal Match |
|---|---|---|
| Seat Depth | Thigh length | Your length - 2-3 inches |
| Back Height | Seated shoulder height | At least to shoulder, or + for headrest |
| Armrest Height | Seated elbow height | ±1 inch adjustable |
| Seat Width | Hip width + 2-4 inches | Enough to sit comfortably |
| Weight Capacity | Your weight + 20% buffer | Leaves room for leaning |
