Standing desk won’t move and there’s no power… anyone know how to lower it without power?
1. Use the Manual Release Mechanism
Most electric standing desks have a manual release lever or knob near the motor or at the bottom of the legs that allows you to lower the desk manually.
- Check your desk’s manual to locate the manual release.
- Press or turn the mechanism while gently lowering the desk to the desired height.
2. Use an External Power Source
If the desk has no power at all, you can consider:
- Using a portable battery (UPS) or emergency power outlet to temporarily power the desk.
- Once the desk has power, you can use the buttons or hand controls to lower it normally.
3. Carefully Lower It Manually
If there’s no manual release and no way to supply power:
- Ask a friend to help gently push down the desktop evenly.
- Be careful not to use excessive force, as it could tilt the desk or damage the motor.
- Some desks have internal gear-lock mechanisms, and forcing it down may cause damage, so proceed with caution.
💡 Tip: In future power outages, first check the bottom of the desk or the manual for a label like “manual lowering” or “emergency release.” This is the safest method.
