MINNEAPOLIS — Target is celebrating a major milestone this month with the opening of its 2,000th store, a 148,000-square-foot location in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, that showcases the retailer’s latest elevated guest experience prototype.
The store features an open, easily navigable layout and expanded same-day services. It also represents Target’s most food-forward design to date, with a food and beverage department 30% larger than the chain average. Additional amenities include a CVS Pharmacy, a Starbucks Cafe, and a Disney Shop at Target.
Adrienne Costanzo, Chief Stores Officer, stated that guests consistently express a desire for a Target closer to home, and this investment delivers on that request. She emphasized that new locations bring the full Target experience—trend-forward style, seamless technology, and friendly service—to more neighborhoods.
The Fuquay-Varina opening is part of a broader 2026 expansion strategy. Target plans to open more than 30 new stores this year and over 300 by 2035 as part of its long-term growth initiative. Six additional locations are opening this month in Bakersfield and Delano, California; Springfield, Missouri; Jersey City and West Orange, New Jersey; and Dallas, Texas.
