Maybe a dumb question, but… how to lock a filing cabinet properly? Mine doesn’t seem to click or lock the way I expect.
Most filing cabinets have a mechanical lock that requires a special key to turn to lock/unlock.
Some have digital/combination locks that require entering the correct password to lock or unlock.
2. Key-operated locking (most common)
Completely close all drawers, allowing space for the lock bolt or rod to engage.
Insert the key and turn it clockwise all the way (or according to the cabinet's instructions), until you feel the lock bolt fully engage.
Once complete, gently pull the handle to confirm that the drawers cannot be opened; only then is it truly locked.
3. Combination lock locking
First, close the drawers or cabinet door.
Enter the digital combination and press/push the lock button.
Ensure the password has been "scrambled" or the lock button is in the locked position to confirm it is locked.
4. No original lock or want to enhance security
- You can add external locking devices, such as a lock bar + padlock, as an alternative locking solution.
