I’m quite familiar with vertical filing cabinets, but what is a lateral filing cabinet? How is it different from a vertical filing cabinet?
Horizontal filing cabinets are wide and short office filing cabinets where files are stored horizontally, arranged from left to right.
The drawers typically pull out from the side, allowing for easy viewing and access to a large number of files simultaneously.
Compared to vertical filing cabinets, although horizontal filing cabinets have wider drawers and occupy more floor space, they can accommodate more files, resulting in higher space utilization.
Additionally, the top surface can be used to place printers, photos, or decorative items.
Because the drawers are shallower and the pull-out distance is shorter, finding files is much quicker than searching through the longer drawers of vertical filing cabinets. This makes them ideal for businesses or clinics.
However, vertical filing cabinets occupy less space and are suitable for people with limited space who don't frequently access their files.
