Meet&CoATLANTA — High-end outdoor furniture brand Brown Jordan is taking a nostalgic yet modern approach with its new Sol Y Luna collection, which will be highlighted at the upcoming Casual Market Atlanta, running from September 16-19.
Inspired by designer Dan Johnson’s iconic Gazelle collection from the 1950s, this new line breathes fresh life into the classic design. Originally produced in bronze and wood in Rome, the Gazelle collection was an epitome of mid-century craftsmanship, with fewer than 150 pieces ever made.
The Sol Y Luna collection reimagines the sculptural elegance and bold geometry of Johnson’s original work, translating it into cast aluminum. This reinterpretation harmonizes classical influences with modern durability, creating a collection that feels both timeless and contemporary.
Each piece in the collection is crafted with a hand-finished surface and undergoes a rigorous five-step treatment process for exceptional durability. The frames come in up to 20 high-gloss powder-coat finishes, while optional seat cushions are available in a range of Brown Jordan’s performance fabrics, offering both style and practicality for outdoor living.
Comfort is a key component of the design, with chairs ergonomically shaped to support the body. Sloped seats provide added comfort, while gently curved armrests embrace the sitter for an enhanced lounging experience.
Dan Johnson, an influential American designer from the postwar era, differentiated himself by drawing on classical forms rather than the futuristic aesthetics embraced by many of his contemporaries. His original Gazelle series, crafted by Italian artisans using traditional casting and weaving techniques, beautifully merged ancient artistry with mid-century modern sensibilities.
